Canadian researchers say blueberry juice that had bacteria from the fruit's skin added helped protect young mice from developing obesity and diabetes. The bacteria--called Serratia vaccinii--appeared to improve the fruit's antioxidant effect. The blood glucose levels of lab mice that were genetically predisposed to obesity, insulin resistance, diabetes, and high blood pressure fell by 35 percent after three days of drinking the juice.
