A reader asks Dr. Robert Shmerling if diabetes could be causing her joint pain. According to Dr. Shmerling, diabetes doesn't cause arthritis or joint inflammation, but it can be associated with conditions that cause pain--such as bursitis, tendonitis, charcot joint, and carpal tunnel syndrome.
