Developing gestational diabetes during pregnancy significantly
increases a woman's chance of having Type 2 diabetes later on, a
new study has found. Researchers looked at 633,449 women who gave
birth between 1995 and 2002. Of the participants, two percent of
the women who did not have gestational diabetes went on to develop
Type 2 diabetes later, while 19 percent of the women who had
gestational diabetes later developed Type 2.
