New research at Washington University has found evidence that challenges the long-held belief that itching is just a milder form of pain. This finding comes after researchers noted that mice bred without an itch-receptor gene known as called gastrin-releasing peptide receptor (GRPR), or mice that had this gene blocked, could still feel pain.
