Studies begin on insulin pill for people who can't use Exubera

Oramed Pharmaceuticals has obtained clearance to begin Phase 1 clinical trials for a new oral insulin pill. The pill will initially be tested in patients with Type 2 diabetes, but the company hopes the studies will eventually lead to a pill for managing Type 1 diabetes as well. Oramed stated that an oral insulin pill could likely be used by all diabetes patients, even those who cannot use Exubera, the new inhalable insulin drug.
