Sleep apnea linked to metabolic syndrome in teens

Teenagers with sleep apnea are more likely to have risk factors for Type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and stroke, a study has found. A significant number of the teens in the study were overweight, but researchers found weight was not a contributing factor to the health problems. Researchers found 59 percent of teens with sleep apnea had metabolic syndrome, versus 16 percent of those without sleep apnea. Read more »
