Drugmaker Eli Lilly is expected to agree this week to pay $1.4 billion to settle charges that it illegally marketed its antipsychotic drug Zyprexa for unauthorized use in patients vulnerable to its risky side effects. Lilly has been accused of a long-term strategy to persuade doctors to prescribe Zyprexa to "disruptive" children and the elderly, two groups for whom the drug was not federally approved and in whom its use is especially risky.
