Why Does Obesity Cause Diabetes

Fat cells are "sick" cells

A new study has found that the fat cells in obese people are "sick." The small study, published in the journal Diabetes, found significant differences between the fat cells of obese people and the fat cells of slim people. In obese patients, the cells produced proteins that lead to insulin resistance. This insulin resistance is associated with many of the obesity-related diseases such as diabetes, stroke, and heart disease. Read more »
