A post-workout snack may cancel exercise's benefits

People who reach for a carb-laden snack immediately after working out may be negating the good effects of their exercise, a new study has found. In a study of young, healthy individuals, researchers found that insulin levels improved after exercise, but only if participants ate a low-carbohydrate snack or had no snack at all. Those who drank high-carb energy drinks or similar foods had no improvement in their blood sugar levels. Experts say this means that athletes may be the only people who really need to replenish carbohydrate levels after working out.
