Trading carbs for protein may help dieters

A moderate-protein diet may trump a high-carbohydrate diet when it comes to weight loss, a new study suggests. Researchers found that people who ate a moderate-protein diet had greater weight loss over the course of a year than people who were on a high-carb diet, but experts say more importantly, the protein group had lost more fat mass and had greater improvement in HDL and triglyceride levels. The study's authors say that lowering carbohydrates reduces insulin response, and increasing protein levels allows the body to shed fat without sacrificing muscle mass.  Read full story >
