FDA: Some glucose monitoring test results could be wrong

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) says that people on dialysis, or who take biologic drugs, could be getting a falsely high reading if they use GDH-PQQ (glucose dehydrogenase pyrroloquinoline quinone) blood glucose testing strips. The strips, manufactured by Roche, Abbott Laboratories, and other companies, may detect non-glucose sugars and cause patients to risk an insulin overdose. The FDA says most of the strips are used in nursing homes and hospitals, and they include brands such as Roche's Accu-Chek Comfort Curve test strips and Abbott's Freestyle test strips.  Read full story >
