Americans devour 'nutrient added' foods

Experts say that American consumers are buying more 'nutrient added' foods--even though many of them are dressed-up junk food, experts say. Ice creams with added probiotics, candy bars that add caffeine and B vitamins, and even so-called "healthy" foods such as granola bars and breads are being added to in order to get consumers to buy them. But experts say this marketing ploy can lead people to overconsume some types of nutrients, while they continue to eat too much sugar and fat.   Read full story >
