Early weight-loss surgery may be more helpful for young adults

Teens who undergo weight-loss surgery before they are "super obese" (200 percent over their ideal weight) have a better chance of maintaining a normal weight later, a new study has found. Researchers studied 60 obese teens and found that young people who underwent gastric bypass surgery when they were between 100 and 150 percent above their ideal weight target were more likely to maintain a healthy weight later. Those who waited until they were super obese were more likely to still be morbidly obese after surgery, which researchers say may still cause long-term health problems.  Read full story >
