Living in a neighborhood where it's pleasant to walk and where fresh fruits and vegetables are easy to buy could cut your risk of developing Type 2 diabetes, researchers say. Scientists say the risk of developing diabetes in such a neighborhood is up to 38 percent less than it is in unhealthy neighborhoods. Experts say the study raises the possibility that making neighborhoods more pleasant--by improving sidewalks, adding green spaces, and opening farmer's markets--could help improve the health of everyone.
