Comfort food may get the boot during times of stress

Many people believe that they're most vulnerable to comfort foods during times of stress, but a new study contradicts that belief. Researchers in South Carolina say that stressful times actually appear to prompt people to eat different--and even healthier--foods. In a series of small studies the researchers found that people's diets changed the most during stressful times, even when they believed that stress caused them to turn to comfort foods. Researchers also found that this openness carried over in other ways, and those who were involved in life changes were more likely to choose unknown products and movies as well.
