Experts say in the next 25 years the number of diabetes patients is expected to double, and the cost of treating the disease is expected to triple. The projections, published in the latest issue of Diabetes Care, were based on the fact that many people are being diagnosed with diabetes at a young age, and researchers say that factor means that people have more time to develop costly, long-term disease complications such as kidney problems and the need for amputations.
