Diabetics who keep tight blood sugar control are more likely to be in a car accident, a Canadian study has found. A study on 795 diabetics revealed that one in 14 had been involved in a crash, and that those whose HbA1c levels were lowest were the most likely to have had an accident. The risk was also quadrupled in patients who had a history of severe hypoglycemia. Experts say this study has implications on driving laws--particularly among diabetics who drive trucks or other commercial vehicles.
