The heart risks caused by low-carb, high-fat diets may outweigh the benefits of weight loss, Northern Irish researchers say. In a study of pre-diabetic adults, researchers found that people who ate a high-carb diet (60 percent carbs, 20 percent fat) lost about the same amount of weight as people who ate a lower-carb, higher-fat diet (60 percent fat, 20 percent carbohydrate). However, those on the lower-carb diet showed more signs of heart disease including increased arterial stiffness.
