FDA May Require Logical Serving Sizes

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) may begin requiring manufacturers to fix food serving sizes so they reflect the way people actually eat. The FDA wants food makers to start listing calorie counts more visibly, but experts say that serving sizes are currently so illogical it may not help Americans curb their weight. Many common prepackaged foods such as soups, cookies, ice cream, chips, and other snack foods often contain more than one serving per small package--a fact that experts say is misleading, since many people eat an entire container and could be getting two or three times more calories than they expect.  Read full story >
