Intense Cholesterol, Blood Pressure Therapy No Help to Type 2 Diabetics: Study

Results from a new U.S. government-sponsored study show that aggressive cholesterol and blood pressure treatments do not reduce the risk of cardiac events in people with Type 2 diabetes. In fact, using two drugs--one to lower bad cholesterol and one to increase good cholesterol--showed a trend in women toward causing harm. And though people in the study who were given aggressive blood pressure treatment did experience lowered blood pressure, this did not translate into lower heart event risks.
