Low-Carb, High-Protein Diet May Be Best for Obese Teens

Teenagers who are severely obese may benefit most from a high protein, low carbohydrate option. A 13-week study of severely obese teens found that those on the low-carb, high-protein diet lost almost 30 pounds, while those on a low-fat diet lost 16 pounds. Both groups kept weight off after the study, and both groups has similar cholesterol levels and bone mineral levels after the studies were finished. Given the outcome, researchers say the low-carb diet could offer the best method of weight loss for people who need to lose weight quickly.
