Gestational Diabetes

(Page 2)

What should I do?

It is recommended that women at high risk for gestational diabetes be tested at first presentation to their physician and at 24 to 28 weeks for moderate risk. Pregnant women should maintain their routines for exercise. If not exercising, develop a plan to engage a routine of proper diet and exercise. If you have gestational diabetes, follow the recommendations of your physician and diabetes educator as your metabolic and medication needs will change during the course of your pregnancy. Remember the goal is to reach a term pregnancy free of complications for you and your infant. After pregnancy, you need to follow up with your physician and be re-assessed for your diabetes. Diet and exercise after pregnancy and weight control will increase your chances for leading a life free of developing diabetes.
