BMI is confusing me. According to all the online calculators, I am obese. My BMI comes out to just above 30. (I'm 5 3 and 171 lbs) I know I could stand to lose a few pounds, but I'm really struggling with the idea that I am obese. All the calculators include a disclaimer about not being 100% accurate, especially if you are a body-builder or are really muscular, I have muscles, but I wouldn't say I'm ripped by any definition of the word. Are there any other guidelines I can look to for clarification?
I know I could go talk to my doctor, but I feel like if I told my doctor I thought I was obese he'd start talking to me about body image, treat me like a little girl who thinks she should look like the models on TV.
