Think Your Way to Happiness & Health: The Law of Attraction Revisited

  • Most of you have probably read or at least heard of the book, The Secret by Rhonda Byrne, that was published several years ago. At that time, the book was a huge success as people all over the world became familiar with the Law of Attraction and its power in their lives. For the first time ever, people began to understand that their thoughts, made up of energy, could attract anything they wanted for themselves and their lives.

    The basic premise for the Law of Attraction is that like attracts like. Everything in our Universe is made up of energy particles, even those things that may appear solid to the eyes. Thoughts are no different and are the main way in which we attract both those things that we want as well as those things that we don’t want. Unfortunately, the Law of Attraction does not discriminate which thoughts are good and which are bad. It simply pulls to you, like a magnet, that which you think about “most” of the time.

    Although for some this may sound too good to be true, if you do a bit of digging, you will find that many of today’s richest and most successful people have known and used this law to achieve their dreams since the beginning of time. Even so, of the millions of people who have read and or seen the film, The Secret, many have still been unsuccessful at attracting what they want into their lives.  The reason, according to the experts on this subject, is mainly that people don’t believe that what they want is possible or attainable. What happens then is that they are focused on what they don’t want to happen or the lack of what they want and thus are creating more situations, circumstances and experiences that build upon what they don’t want.

    The truth is that whether you believe in the Law of Attraction or not, it is always working.  Its up to each of us whether we want to start taking control of what’s coming our way or not…I say whether skeptical or not, it’s worth a shot! Whether you want to achieve optimal health, heal yourself of disease, meet the love of your life, improve existing relationships, change careers, earn more money, or anything else you can think of…it is possible if you believe it is.

    So what does it take to be successful in attracting what you want? Here are a few guidelines I’ve learned. Give them a try and see what happens!

    Define What You Want
    Many of us have a very general idea of what we think we want, but rather then being proactive in determining and achieving it, we let life happen to us without too many expectations. Although this is a very safe way of approaching life, it won’t bring you the extraordinary life that’s possible for you. Even though it’s not necessary to be really specific when outlining what you want, it is necessary to have a general idea of what it is. Spend time gathering data about what you want. Research options online, put $ figures to your dreams, talk to others who have already attained what you want (or aspects of), list out the characteristics of the people you want in your life, etc. In other words, “create it”. Of course, our wants change all the time, so if they require some adapting in the future, don’t let that deter you. If all else fails and you still don’t know what you want, have your “want” be to know what you want and then go from there.

  • Trust Your Internal Guidance System

    Each of us is born with a guidance system that alerts us to whether we are or aren’t attracting what we want. That guidance system is our “feelings”. When you are thinking a thought, take a minute to assess how you are feeling in that moment. If you don’t feel good, you are thinking of what you don’t want. If you do feel good, you are on the right track.

    Turn a Negative Thought into a Positive One
    It would be impossible to monitor your thoughts all of the time. As many of us are already preconditioned to negative thinking, it may take a bit of adjusting to get the good thoughts flowing on a regular basis. First, remember that it’s the underlying belief and/or emotion that causes the negative thought, so that’s where you want to put your focus. Secondly, when the negative emotion arises, start to “walk” yourself out of it in any way that works for you until you reach a point of feeling good again. Once you are there, you will know that you have been successful at turning a negative into a positive and creating more of what you do want.

    Increase Your Belief Factor
    Once you have outlined what you want, the key is to become absolutely obsessed with it. Think about it as often as you can and feel the experience of already having it. The more you are able to do this, the faster it will come to you. A great exercise is to spend quiet time each day giving intended thought to what you want. Remember to use your internal guidance system to know that you are on the right track.

    Give up Knowing How it Will Happen
    Most of us cannot see our future. We might have an idea of where we’re going, but there are many situations, experiences and people entering our lives on a daily basis that we cannot predict. Consider that the “how” to achieving what you want is not yet on your radar screen. The trick is to trust that the Universe will bring those things necessary into your life experience that will allow you to achieve that which you are thinking. Suddenly the right circumstances will align themselves for which you can then take action (if necessary) towards your dream.

    Regardless of what it is that you would like in your life, utilizing the Law of Attraction will bring it to you without fail. You can have, do or be anything you want in life. If you can think of it, then it’s possible.  It’s time to believe it and go for it!
