So my weightlifting program at school is designed with pushing your muscles to the limit.     There's abosolutly no problem with weightlifting but you should take it slow.  Guys build up their muscles by using that method of doing high weights and low reps.  Girls build their muscle by low weight and high reps.  Both have the same outcome as muscle build up but I don't see how building muscle will mess up a basketball shot.
