Summertime and the living is easy, right? Except when all your kids are home from school and you have a hard time etching out time for a workout!
My daily routine with my kids includes visiting a local park where the kids can play and I can technically squeeze in a “workout”. Although it might not be my ideal type of workout, it is still a chance for me to get my heart rate up and every little bit counts. After all, fitness can happen anywhere!
You don’t have to let your fitness fall to the wayside over summer break.
Here are a few of my favorite ways to use the playground as my “gym”:
- Jog around the perimeter
- Walking lunges back and forth across the playground
- Park bench step-ups.
- Tricep dips off the same bench
- Monkey bars—working on my chin ups
- Sprints (also known as “chase my kids”. They LOVE it!
If you find other parents giving you the “glare”, invite them to join you in the fun. Chances are they will join you or at least smile and admire your efforts!
Here is a park workout to try the next time you are out. Let me know what you think!

Playgrounds help you remember that workouts can happen anywhere, anytime and they can still be loads of FUN! I hope to see you on the monkey bars sometime this summer!
