Stress! We all have it in our lives and sometimes we have TOO much. I recently moved to a different house and, as many of you know, this is no easy task! I am stressed and overwhelmed, and while it could be so easy to just put my fitness goals aside for a while, I decided to follow a few simple rules to make sure that didn’t happen.
1. Schedule it in: My workouts are like doctor’s appointments—I block off time for them on my calendar and pretend there is a cancellation fee if I miss them.
2. Work smarter, not harder: Like most moms, time is scarce these days. I make the most of the time I have by increasing the intensity of my workouts. There is no time for breaks or distractions—I move through my sets with an all-out effort so I can get more use of my time.
3. Relax: Stress elevates cortisol, which is a stress hormone that can lead to an increase in belly fat. Taking walks outside, hot baths or meditating can help bring down your stress level and give your body a much-needed break.
4. Just do SOMETHING: Find ways to sneak in fitness. Take the stairs, find a spot for body squats and burpees, or do a quick workout in your kitchen. Even if it is only 10 minutes, it is better than nothing!
While these steps can’t take my stress away, they can help make life seem less overwhelming. How do you stay on track during stressful times?
