Hula Dance Hard on Knees

Hi,I recently started learning Hula dance for fitness and it is mostly performed with knees slightly bent or in a lunge-like position. I am usually ok while I exercise, but later in the day my knees begin to really ache and it is uncomfortable to walk. Can you give me some pointers on how to do a proper lunge or maybe something to strengthen my knees? Thanks,Meena
