This was an excellent article ! The pedometer does motivate you, as an after school childcare counselor I wore one and found that I walked between 9-11,000 steps during a 4 hour period,,although I am not overweight, I lost inches and just felt emotionally better and less tired and slept so much better. A pedometer is a great gift to give. When you wear one, you begin to challenge yourself to do better. It works !!

thanks for the great article. i've been reading lately that it's better to exercise with intense, short burst of activity (getting your heart into the 90% zone) and then down to a lower level again, rather than just slogging it out on the treadmill at a steady 80%....are there any studies that show interval training is better than long, steady training, in terms of cardio fitness?
