The words in the declaration of independence were written by Thomas Jefferson. It's a little know fact that the most famous phrase in the declaration "Life Liberty and the pursuit of happiness" were not Jefferson's own words but they were based on the words of an English philosopher called John Locke who wrote that "no one ought to harm another's life, health, liberty or possessions."
Somehow the founding fathers decided not to include the word health from the original phrase in the declaration. I wonder if I was there and whispered "I think we should include health, because in about 230 years, America's health and that of its children are in serious decline with an abundance of junk food, over processed meals and people who over medicate themselves and avoid exercising like the plague"
I happen to think our health is everything. Without it nothing else seems to matter. You cannot work, play, worship, relax or vacation. We cannot be totally free without being healthy. They definition of independence is
"The state or quality of being independent; freedom from being controlled; direction of one's own affairs without interference"
As a nation, as a family, as individuals, If broken down in mind, body or spirit you cannot pursue your life's purpose without being healthy it's virtually impossible because your body becomes an interference. Health is all about choice, choose to eat healthy, choose not to be greedy and not to over eat and chose to exercise. Freedom gives us choice, so please use it wisely.
He is a quote from Alex Lubarsky that I like. Our health is invisible, it is intangible as well, and only makes itself known when it is no longer there. When we give up the right of responsibility for its maintenance, we've simultaneously given up all of our other rights as well, because "he" who controls your health will eventually control your life. My greatest hope, is that he be you! Health, think about it!
