For a very active person (over 10 hours of weekly exercise), how much protein PER LEAN BODYWEIGHT do you recommend?  Is it still 0.8g per kilogram of LEAN bodyweight.

If you are that active you definitely need carbs for fuel. If you don't load up on carbs your body might start eat up its lean mass.

As for protein requirements, you must be higher than 0.8g per KG of lean body weight in order for you to main and increase lean muscle mass. Most body builders take twice so 1.6g/kg of lean body mass.

There is really no magic formula, so start keeping a very detailed log to monitor your training and nutrition and using your body as a guide vary the amount of protein you consume from 1.2g per kg - 2.0g per kg of lean body weight and see your results over a 4 week - 8 week period, then you will arrive at optimal protein requirements for yourself.

Remember when you increase the amount of protein, especially from meat & dairy you raise the level of uric acid and urea in your blood, so you have to drink lots of water to aid in flushing. So drink drink lots of water.

Please remember the last point, don't get tied up in the numbers and %'s of protein, train hard and train well for the best results. Wishing you the best of success!
