Kenn's answers shows that he's never struggled with weight. There are a lot of reasons for a plateau and the ones Kenn listed are arguably not the most common. When I was 30 lbs overweight I got stuck after losing 13 lbs and had to make adjustments. I was not fudging my caloric intake and I was diligent in my exercise. Here are some other reasons for hitting a plateau:
• Not eating enough - try increasing calorie count and weight loss may occur
• Temporarily increase protein, decrease carbs
• Change up exercise routine (different types of exercises not necessarily more of the same or increase current exercise)
• Vary amount of calories each day to keep metabolism off balance (one day 1200 calories, another day 2000 calories - keep your weekly calorie intake the same for your diet plan)
• Sometimes we lose weight but scale doesn't reflect it because of changes in water weight (judge by how clothes fit too not just scale)
• Start resistance or weight training - building muscle increases metabolism and burns more calories
• Eat light snacks 5-6 times a day
• Food sensitivities can cause weight gain and bloat, and the frustrating thing is that most of us don't always know which foods are the culprits. So play the odds. Highest on the list of "usual suspects" are grains (wheat in particular), dairy and sugar. Temporarily ban all three and see what happens.
• Try a fruit/vegetable fast for two days to kick start your metabolism.
• Stress, sudden weight loss, lack of sleep, or medication can cause a plateau.
