Everyone knows that when you are on a diet, regular soda just isn't on the menu. But order up a diet soda, have as many as you want, and you are doing a great job, right? Well, maybe not so much. There is, and always has been, a lot of press surrounding diet sodas and artificial sweeteners (...

My choice is to drink NO sodas. I would much rather drink milk, juice and my doctor has requested I drink gatorade (or the like) for the electrolytes. Drink what's good for your body/health.

Among the facts/myths that exist out there is that even in diet soda's the killer for weight loss is the carbonation.  Fact or myth?

I have been drinking diet sodas while dieting as I am 'hooked' on them.  I stick to "Diet Rite" with no caffiene, no carbs, no sodium and no calories, now being copied by Coke's "Net Zero".  I understand that Splenda, which is used in DietRite but not Coke Zero or in any other diet drink is made from Sugar but has the same amount of calories as Sweet & Low and the other one that comes in the blue packet.

Being made from sugar is appealing to me because the big problem with any diet soda that uses Aspartame is that this substance is reputed to change into a form of formaldahyde once in your system.  This is according to Dr. Gerry Barrios, here in Miami, an excellent family physician.

I am going to now switch over to just plain club soda for a while - the ones that come in glass bottles as opposed to plastic which is suspected of leaching bad stuff into its liquid contents over time.

I suspect it is maybe the carbonation (bubbles) in these drinks that I like more than the sweetness or the flavor anyway.

I don't know if I am a registered useer or not.

Jim Brewster - thanks for your comments on this - no one ever talks about it.
