The Politics of Prevention

Chronic diseases are the leading causes of death and disability in the United States. This is information straight from those in the know: the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. And by talking about chronic diseases, we are talking about such notables as diabetes, cancer and heart...

I read your article and found it very informative.  I live with a chronic disease called "fibromyalgia" for over 20 years and there has not been much change to the health system towards preventive measures or medical assistance.

It is a discourage goverment and it falls short for the people.  We live in a crazy world where decisions are made as to where the money will go and to what cause.  People like myself go on the back burner. This illness is not even recognized as a disease but as an illness.  It may take another 20 years for this illness to be recognized.

I have come to terms that things may not change for a very long time.  I took the inniative to create a support group for people with chronic illness (fibromyalgia).  It was the least I could do as I had 20 years of experience and if I could help one person that I have done a lot.

It was a wonderful feeling of joy to know that the members appreciate that there were other people out there who knew how each other felt.

One has to replace negativity with positivity.

I am happy to read that you have commented on all different aspects of health and debilating diseases that need to be addresssed more.

Blessings,

Susan

I am sick, sick, sick and tired of hearing what the government should do for us. Why don't we just get off our big behinds and do it for ourselves.

Amen to that.  When people start realizing that their unhealthy lifestyles are contributing significantly to the increase in chronic diseases we are facing today, then maybe they will take the initiative to take control of their own life.  Government isn't going to do it for us.  Nobody is going to do it for us.  Only we have the ability to empower ourselves and take charge of our health.
