    I've recently joined a gym and was recently told by dr that I have psvt arrhythmia. 

     

    I am female, 33, 5ft 5, 124 lbs and want to get toned really bad. 

     

    I do have a heart rate monitor and seem to get a rapid heart rate too quickly whenever I go to the gym (at random times when doing nothing too).  Dr says I can go to gym, but need to go to hospital if it stays at 200 or more for too long. 

     

    Basically, I am there for about 10 min, sometimes less, sometime longer, and my heart rate will go up in a very short time to 150's, then in 180's, and then shoots up to 200 or more (monitor stops counting at 250 and goes blank), so I have to cough/hold my breath to slow it down and not pass out. 

     

    I usually do the circuit (series of light resistance machines), then move to the ab machine/cycle/step machines. 

     

    Any tips so I can keep working out without constantly having to stop and slow my heart rate down?  I feel like I am not getting any beneficial exercise in as I have to keep stopping/slowing down so my heart rate doesn't go too high.

    I'm glad you asked this question.  I too have a heart rate that rockets up too high, too fast.  I am not able to jog slowly for more than a few minutes.  Using a heartrate monitor, I try to keep my heart rate at 80% max.  In order to do that, I have to restrict my efforts to just a walk.  I can't even do a very fast walk without the heart rate going way too high. 

    My solution is to walk longer at the lower heart rate.  I will walk for at least an hour.

    My trainer has suggested i should see the doctor as I have been recently diagnosed with exercised induces asthma and have to use the inhaler an hour before exercise.  Perhaps they are related. 

    I will be very interested to see if anyone can shed some light on this problem.

    Do you feel anxious or nervous when you are in the gym? I find some days I feel anxious and my heart rate rockets up just by walking around and doing light weights. I find deep breaths really help. Inhale fully and exhale fully.

    Hi. Are you taking any medicine to control your heart rate? Some of the more common medicines are a beta-blocker like toprol or a calcium-channel block like diltiazem. The CCB tend to drop your blood pressure more and can cause dizziness so i would typically recommend a beta-blocker in a young healthy person without asthma. PSVT can be very annoying, and unfortunately you shoudnt aggravate it if possible. 

     

    I would attempt medical therapy first, but if you are currently taking medicine to control it, it might be time to look at other options, possibly a catheter ablation. If done correctly, the surgery is minimally invasive and can pretty much stop PSVT from occurring. You should then be able to return to a normal lifestyle.

    hi my name is sony, im 18 and i have had psvt for a year and i believe i have found a couple of workouts that dont hurt your heart that much,

     

    1.) the plank, lay in pushup position with your elbows on the ground keep your back straight just stay in this position for as long as you can i usually do this for about 3 minutes

     

    2.) lay on your back keeping your legs and arms straight and above the ground about 2 inchs keep your abs crunched stay in this position for as long as you can i usually do this for about 3 minutes

     

    3.) get in plank position except on one elbow balancing on your side stay in this position for as long as you can i usually do this for about 3 minutes

     

    4.) lay on your back keep your whole body relaxed crunch your abs for as long as you can i usually do this for 10 minutes
