I had a hip replacement 2 years ago and need to lose 100lbs, what exercises can or can't I do ?

My Mom is 54 years old and 229lbs. I want to start exercising but I don't know what I should do or what I shouldn't do because of my hip. The one that has been replaced is of course fine, but the other is now is hurting, I figure when I drop some weight my hips will hurt less. Please...
