Hi Hina, Constipation can be a very painful situation and it sounds like you may also be suffering from gas, which is causing your stomach to become bloated after eating. I would take a look at the kinds of foods you are eating, they may be causing your gas and constipation.   Try to increase your intake of high fiber foods like fresh fruits and vegetables as well as whole grain breads. The fiber will help move foods through your digestive system so you will go to the bathroom more often. You should consume 20 to 35 grams of fiber each day. However, increasing your fiber intake quickly can cause gas and we don't want to exacerbate that problem so gradually increase the amount of fiber you eat everyday.   I also encourage you to increase your water intake because dehydration can result in constipation. At the same time, limit the amount of carbonated beverages you drink, such as soda. The carbonation can cause gas and bloating. And finally, if you aren't currently physically active, get up and move more. Physical activity also affects bowel activity and the more we move our body the more our bowels will move.   Good luck and good health. Heather Reese, MS, RD
