Are there any real detrimental effects directly linked to artificial sweetners that are physical?

This is for a school project I am doing on artificial sweetners, so if you have any useful information to give me I would greatly appreciate it. Not to be rude but i would prefer it if only experts respond, although links to other cites with information would be great too.
