Q: gaining weight

on a typical day i do 1-4 hours on the elliptical trainer, barring illness.

i might do 1/2 hour on the treadmill too.

i also do a minimum of 150 crunches on >67lbs on an ab machine,

as well as >120 squats with 5lb weights in each hand.

i record all my intake/output and 9 times out out of 10 wind up in the negatives as far as calories go, but im actually gaining weight.

not "muscle weight" but actual fat that i can see/measure.

i eat a lot of fruits and veggies and try to stay away from processed foods- what am i doing wrong?

Rachaellee- You can actually start gaining weight if you're not getting the right nutrition you need, or as many calories as you need to even just... function throughout the day... it also depends on what type of work outs you do.... but if you're not eating enough... your body will hold onto everything you eat because, biologically... it doesn't know when your next meal is going to be and if you're going to need ALL the nutrients from EVERYTHING you eat and stores it until you get the right nutrition.

Same with your water intake. if you're dehydrated, your body will hold onto that water..making you gain that icky "water weight" we all hate.

My nutritionist gave me a list of three different choices of combinations for each meal.. it's always better to eat smaller meals more often... that way you stay energized longer throughout the day and you're less likely to stalk your fridge for like midnight goodies.

Do you think you're gaining weight because you're not eating proper meals or could it be a medical problem? For example, I have lupus... and need to take prednisone which is sxrewing around with my weight. and it won't stop until I get on a tapering dose.... which won't happen for a while I don't think...
