Q: I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia 3 years ago. I went from being an athlete and working out 6 days a week to gaining 50 lbs and am miserable. I take methadone for pain. I am wondering how to lose lbs.
About a month ago, I started eating very healthy and then starting working out again. It is painful afterwards but does help with the mental anguish of fibro. However, my question is this: I take methadone for my pain as nothing else has been able to touch it. Does methadone cause weight gain? Before methadone, I didn't weigh this much and before fibro, I never was overweight. I always worked out and ate pretty well and stayed within a general range. I have lost NO weight in over a month now and my "old" body from 2-3 years ago would have easily lost about 10+ pounds by now.
Please give me some answers about methadone. And if anyone has any recommendations for pain medication that does NOT put on the pounds, please let me know. Please only answer if you have taken methadone or know what it does as my back and joint pain are bad. I have tried lortab and oxycontin and they didn't work as well as methadone.
I want my life back. If I have to deal with the side effects of methadone forever, it sucks but I will if I can find a way to lose some weight. This has never happened before and it is so hard on me. I cannot fit into anything I own and I just need to know if the meds are the culprit. I do also take Effexor and Ambien, which helps with the sleep, and Effexor has never allowed me to gain weight before...
Thank you!
Jenette
