Is strength training once a week or once every other week better than not strength training at all?

I'm in a rehab-type place (not exactly rehab but it's an in-patient program) where they take us to do strength training every week, and sometimes we skip weeks.  We are required to participate.  I think we should do it more, but they say it's better than nothing.  Is this true?
