Mostly in arthritis we want to reduce excess weight since carrying excess pounds can really hurt already arthritic leg joints.  a balanced diet that includes omega-3 fatty acids (oily fish, nuts, olive oil) will help reduce inflammatory processes.  I'd also make sure she is getting atleast 400-600 IU of vitamin D since it may feature in preventing arthritis.  Any diet with fruits, vegetables, non-fat dairy, whole grains, plant based proteins and those healthy fats that targets around 1500 calories daily plus a gentle walking program should help.
