Q: My Tanita bathroom scale says my BMI is 38, but your BMI calculator says 24.5. Which is correct?

I have noticed that my Tanita bathroom scale seems to be unable to differentiate between calorie-free water and heavy calories.  After drinking much water during the day I will show up as higher BMI than after eating something like chocolate.

This is because a Tanita BIA scale predicts BMI by electrical impulses.  When you drink more water the current travels faster through your body giving you a higher score.  Try achieving good hydration, drinking about a liter of water the night before you weigh yourself and try it in the morning when you wake up...see if it stays a bit more constant that way!
