Q: I have discovered I have a severe milk intolerance. I am now finding it impossible to lose weight.

I am a vegetarian and have removed all milk products from my diet, have switched to Soya products, increased the number of portions of vegetables to 7-10 per day. I also exercise for 1-1.5 hours 3 times a week but am not losing the 2 stones I quickly gained over 9 months. Any advice would be very welcome ?

Hi Claire,

I have two suggestions.

1.  Double check the calories.  The bottom line is calories in must be less than calories burned to see weight loss results.  Even though you have switched to healthier food choices, your calories might have increased.

2.  Look at how your clothes fit versus the number on the scale.  If exercising is a new addition to your routine, you are probably buidling muscle and the number on the scale will go up (muscle weighs more than fat).  It's a good thing, the more muscle you have, the higher your metabolism.

All the best,
