Butter versus Cholesterol Free Margarines
I am trying to get additional information concerning changing my eating habits. I now that the best plan includes not eating any of the above products but I am trying to find out what is the best product I can put in my diet. I have heard that all of the cholesterol free products are garbage because they have so many chemicals in them. I have been told that pure butter is the best way to go if you are going to use it. I have been told to use just small amounts. Right now my overall cholesterol is fine but my good cholesterol is low by 7 numbers. I have been told by my doctor that there are no foods I can eat to get my good cholesterol numbers up that exercise could do it or pills. I have tried walking but it is hard for me because of the arthritis in my knee and leg. If you could please tell me which is better butter or the cholesterol free margarines and also give me some place (whether it is on the internet or TV) where I can find exercises that could help me bring my good cholesterol numbers up I would greatly appreciate it.
First with regards to exercise water aerobics might be helpful. I do also know that icing painful areas after exercise might help someone with arthritis break through the exercise /pain cycle so that you ultimately are able to become a regular exerciser - it can take awhile.
Spreads like Benecol brand can actually due to their plant stanol content help you to improve your cholesterol profile. You do have to have a serving 3 times a day - so make sure to account for those calories. A small pat of butter (thumbnail size) can fit into a balanced diet, but I would also recommend trying small servings of nut butters to get some healthy fat benefits and also trying apple butter which has zero fat.
