Topics:musclebuilding supplements

i am a little uneasy about my 18 year old son taking a supplement called "Cell-Tech" musclebuilding creatine formula. In the ingredients it mentions among MANY things - creatine anhydrous, creatine malate, creatine pyroglutamate, Taurine, Betaine HCI, Aplpha  lipoic acid and many many more.

He has been working out every day and taking this stuff since August. It is working - he is about 20 pounds heavier ( from 168-170 to 185-189) He is 6feet 2 and in good shape.

I just want to be sure that he is not harming himself

thanks

That sounds like alot of creatine.  it's benefits are that it allows for faster muscle recovery - which is obviously allowing your son to maximize his weight training efforts.  The downside is that creatine has been implicated in some problems with electrolyte balance, dehydration, even possible kidney damage.

You can read further about creatine at:

Since teens can be tough to "reason with" especially if they are getting the exact outcome they were hoping for, you might enlist your pediatrician/doctor in the conversation.  I'm not suggesting no creatine - I just think he needs to be more cautious about "how much creatine."
