Researchers at the University of Houston tested nearly 20 different surfaces from hotel rooms in Texas to find the most germ-laden areas.

Hotel room bacteria havens are:

- TV Remote
- Bedside lamp switch
- Telephone
- Carpet
- Toilet and bathroom sink
- Cleaning supplies from housekeepers’ cars

The cleanest areas are:
- Headboard on the bed
- Curtain rods
- Bathroom door handle

Researchers hope that the findings will help hotel management develop better cleaning practices for their hotel rooms.
