Dutch researchers found that people naturally take smaller bites and eat less food when the food has an intense or pungent aroma.  Researchers hypothesize that flavor intensity impacts bite sizes because it triggers a self-regulatory mechanism that causes us to instinctively take smaller bites to avoid strong sensations.
