Black tea has its perks, too

Black tea has its perks, too

We learned that drinking black tea could reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes.

The findings are based on an observational study of black tea consumption among 50 countries compared to the rates of respiratory diseases, infectious diseases, cardiovascular disease, cancer and diabetes in those countries.

According to the findings published in BMJ Open, the countries with the highest rates of black tea consumption also had some of the lowest rates of type 2 diabetes.  The other diseases studied were not affected by their black tea consumption rates.

Researchers cautioned that the reporting quality among the 50 countries probably varied as well as disease rates, but that the findings support similar findings from previous studies on the benefits of black tea.
