Food and drinks made with artificial sweeteners are indeed lower in
calories, but a new study suggests that they may lead to
overeating. A recent animal study found that rats ate more
artificially-sweetened food than food that used table sugar.
Researchers believe that a sweet taste may make the body
'anticipate' a calorie count, which may lead to overeating and
weight gain.
